{"id":422,"date":"2025-03-26T09:07:06","date_gmt":"2025-03-26T10:07:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.firstnationaltt.com\/?p=422"},"modified":"2025-04-14T01:22:19","modified_gmt":"2025-04-14T01:22:19","slug":"man-fined-over-7700-for-failing-to-remove-waste-from-his-land","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.firstnationaltt.com\/index.php\/2025\/03\/26\/man-fined-over-7700-for-failing-to-remove-waste-from-his-land\/","title":{"rendered":"Man fined over \u00a37,700 for failing to remove waste from his land"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-beyondwords-marker=\"f9c1ca05-c421-4f4d-a84f-58f8af4f6fd8\" data-beyondwords-player=\"true\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<h4><img decoding=\"async\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-466345 size-full lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" alt=\"Waste crime\" width=\"860\" height=\"516\" data-src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.circularonline.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/s960_Summerscasepic.png?resize=860%2C516&amp;ssl=1\"><\/h4>\n<h4>Man fined over \u00a37,700 for failing to remove waste from his land in Solihull at Birmingham Magistrates.<\/h4>\n<p>Benjamin Summers, 80, ignored a formal Notice from the Environment Agency to remove waste from his land and operated a waste facility without the necessary environmental permit.<\/p>\n<p>Summers admitted the offences and was fined \u00a31107 and ordered to pay costs of \u00a36545.85.<\/p>\n<p>The magistrates also imposed a Remediation Order, giving Summers four months to completely clear any outstanding waste from the land.<\/p>\n<p>The Environment Agency launched an investigation into Summers in February 2023 after being notified by the local authority.<\/p>\n<p>They found evidence of approximately 35 cubic metres of mixed waste being stored on the land, made up of plastics, metal, treated wood, and derivatives.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Failure to comply with these legal requirements is a serious offence that can damage the environment and harm human health.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Between February 2023 and August 2023, Environment Agency officers visited the site five times and requested Summers to clear the wase.<\/p>\n<p>On 1 November 2023, Summers was issued a formal Notice to clear the waste by 1 January 2024.
